Kitchen Remodeling NJ – How Kitchen Cabinets Are Installed

One of the most enjoyable parts of doing a kitchen remodeling NJ is picking out the kitchen cabinets that fit your style. There are so many out there to choose from, with different styles, colors, and sizes. It can easily become overwhelming but it can be a lot of fun as well.

We’ve talked a little about the best way to go about making those choices and gave you some information that could be handy to know when considering what will work best for you. Today we want to touch upon the basics of how the kitchen cabinets nj that you’ve chosen will be installed.

PROCESS

Your kitchen has become a construction zone. You can’t cook, get to the fridge, and even making coffee in the mornings can be a hassle as long as the alterations are going on.  But, as with most installation processes there is a method to the madness.

Once the dismantling of the old kitchen is complete and everything is out of the way your kitchen should be ready for its new rebuild!

There are basically 4 easy steps for installing kitchen cabinets. We have experts that install these cabinets when you choose to let us help you with your kitchen remodeling NJ. We’re giving you the following steps to help you understand what we do and hopefully answer some of your questions about what is involved in the installation.

Step 1: Measure and Mark

First we measure to get the height of the base cabinets. The most popular standard cabinets are 34-1/2” high. Then we add 1-1/2” for a standard countertop and 18” for a standard backsplash, (though it is becoming popular with designers to ask for a 20” backsplash to accommodate small appliances). With the 18” backsplash, the total measurement should be 54” from the floor to the bottom of the upper cabinets. We’ll even make adjustments if your floor is not level. We than mark a horizontal line across the wall it the correct point to serve as a guide when we are ready to hang the kitchen cabinets NJ.

We use a stud finder for locating the wall studs, because the wall studs are essential in providing the proper support for the weight of the cabinets. It goes without say that we pay careful attention to the position of all electrical wiring and plumbing during the entire installation process.

Step 2: Installing the Ledger Board

We fasten a support board to the wall, screwing it into the marked studs so that it can temporarily support the cabinets during the installation procedure. This is for the safety of the working crew as well as for the welfare of your kitchen cabinets NJ.

Step 3: Hanging the Upper Cabinets

By attaching many cabinets together we can safely lift and install a couple at a time onto the ledger board. Next, we secure the two cabinets together at the stile. By affixing one screw on the top and bottom in the front and back where the two cabinets meet we can insure they are attached correctly and securely.

We then move attach the cabinets. We will occasionally have to shim the cabinets for accurate placement before securing the cabinets into the wall at the studs. If a gap exists between the wall and the last cabinet, we will use a filler bar to enclose the gap. This piece, if needed, is typically securing the last cabinet before it is installed. We will then attach the doors and hardware after all the kitchen cabinets NJ is installed.

Step 4: Installing the Base Cabinets

Base cabinets are measured and level lines are marked on the wall from the high point in the floor to the cabinet height. Again, we use stud finders to locate and mark the studs along this line around the walls that the kitchen cabinets NJ are to be placed.

We dry fit your first cabinet into place and make sure that it is level across the top, shimming if needed. We then attach all base cabinets and attach the doors and hardware.
